This review is based on an experience with the Saucony Ride 18 Mens Road Running Shoes
It’s hard to find many faults with this shoe. As an everyday runner there aren’t many better. It’s one of my go to shoes when logging the daily miles during my current marathon training plan.
The PWRRUN+ midsole offers a really smooth and cushioned ride at all distances. I've currently ran up to 15kms, but this shoe would definitely offer the cushioning needed for half-marathon distance and beyond. The only downside to the cushioning would be the energy return when picking up the pace. I would say anything sub 4:15 min km’s then the shoe doesn't quite feel as smooth - but then this shoe is designed for every day/easy miles, not speed. Another real positive is the stable ride this shoe offers. Although this is a neutral shoe, you can really feel the wide midsole base keeping you aligned and stable, particularly on tired legs towards the end of runs.
The upper is one of the highlights. It has a really secure fit, being neither wide or narrow, just sitting nicely in the middle. I had no issues with heel slipping and the toe box offered a nice amount of space - for reference I have a narrow foot. One initial concern was the length of the laces, but I realised there were two spare eyelets at the top of the shoe (there is usually one spare) and as soon as I looped through the extra eyelet that issue was resolved.
Overall this shoe has really impressed me. I would recommend this shoe for anyone looking for a really cushioned, well rounded, daily trainer. Someone who isn’t looking for that tempo shoe, and just wants a really comfortable fit, smooth ride. The kind of shoe you log many miles in without having to think about what's on your feet. I will be logging many more miles in this shoe.
