The Hoka Challenger 8 stands out for me in the world of hybrid trail running shoes, seamlessly blending road & off-road capability. As someone who enjoys the trails, I’ve put these shoes through their paces on everything from gravel paths, mountains & roads and they’ve exceeded my expectations. The fit for me is slightly roomier than previous models, allowing toes to splay nicely, while still giving a secure locked in fit.
The 4mm multi-directional lugs provides great traction across a variety of surfaces. Whether it was loose dirt or hard-packed trails, the rubber outsole offered reliable grip that gave me confidence. The Challenger 8 feels incredibly sturdy & robust but still with a super light feeling on the foot. While it’s not designed for the muddiest terrain, the lug gripped debris efficiently, making it ideal for dry trails, gravel, and light mud. The transition from trail to pavement was seamless, with cushioning that reminded me very much of the Clifton’s, proving these shoes are true road-to-trail.
