Brooks Ghost AMP Review — Lightweight, Responsive, and Built to Do It All

Brooks Ghost AMP Review — Lightweight, Responsive, and Built to Do It All

The Brooks Ghost AMP is the kind of running shoe that can comfortably turn its hand to almost anything. While it carries the Ghost name, the experience is noticeably different from the traditional Ghost, with a lighter construction and more responsive ride that makes the shoe feel just as happy picking up the pace as it does covering everyday miles.

The Ride: Softer Cushioning with More Energy

The biggest difference comes from the addition of a layer of PEBA foam, which gives the Ghost AMP considerably more energy and responsiveness than the standard Ghost. There is still plenty of cushioning beneath the foot, but rather than simply feeling soft, the shoe gives something back when you start to increase your effort.

That combination creates a soft yet responsive ride. It remains comfortable enough for longer and easier runs, but there is enough energy return that you naturally find yourself wanting to pick up the pace.

Performance: More Than Just a Ghost

Despite its name, I would not necessarily compare the Ghost AMP directly with the traditional Brooks Ghost. In terms of the way it runs, it feels much closer to shoes such as the ASICS Novablast or adidas Adizero Evo SL, combining daily-training comfort with a noticeably livelier character.

This makes it an excellent option for runners who do not want their daily trainer to feel dull when the pace increases. Whether you are cruising through steady mileage or pushing into a quicker section of a run, the Ghost AMP feels capable of adapting without becoming uncomfortable or overly aggressive.

Weight: Noticeably Lighter Underfoot

The Ghost AMP is around 40 grams lighter than the traditional Ghost, and that reduction is immediately noticeable when running. It feels incredibly light underfoot, helping give the shoe a quicker and less cumbersome sensation as your turnover increases.

Importantly, that lower weight has not come at the expense of cushioning. There is still a good amount of protection underfoot, which helps the Ghost AMP retain the comfort required for regular training while delivering a much more energetic feel.

Fit and Comfort

Fit is reassuringly straightforward, with the Ghost AMP running true to size. There is plenty of room through the midfoot, avoiding the restrictive sensation you can sometimes find in lighter, faster-feeling shoes.

The upper is also particularly soft and accommodating. Combined with the generous fit, it makes the shoe comfortable across a variety of distances and helps reinforce its credentials as a genuinely versatile daily option.

The Verdict

The Brooks Ghost AMP takes the everyday usability associated with the Ghost family and gives it a much livelier personality. The PEBA-enhanced cushioning, substantial weight reduction, and comfortable upper create a shoe that feels light, soft, and responsive without sacrificing the protection needed for regular mileage.

If you want one shoe that can handle comfortable daily runs while still feeling exciting when you decide to increase the pace, the Ghost AMP makes a very strong case. For me, it sits closer to versatile performance trainers like the Novablast and Evo SL than the traditional Ghost, and that is exactly what makes it so appealing.
