The best description of the Superblast 2 that I can give is that it is an everyday trainer with race day foam and capabilities. From the moment I put it on I knew this was going to be a great shoe – and judging by how well these have been selling I’m not the only one!
I was looking for a race day shoe for a half marathon and wanted something that was obviously super responsive and lightweight while also being really stable due my mild over-pronation, not an easy combination! I tried the Hoka Mach X 1 and the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 and both were great options for what I was looking for but with the Superblast it all just clicked.
The Superblast 2 uses Asics’ FF Turbo+ foam (their go to race shoe foam used in the carbon plated Magicspeed 4 and Metaspeed range) which not only gave me the energy return I was looking for but also incredibly cushioned for absorbing that high impact during faster paces. This makes them so easy on my legs both during and after my runs which is another massive tick.
While I got them as race day shoe this is definitely a great all rounder. Due to the lack of any plate and a bottom layer of Asics’ FF Blast+ ECO foam (used in the Gel-Nimbus 27) they are also so comfortable at my slower paces as well- during my warm ups/ cool downs and recovery periods for sessions. Going forward I can definitely see these becoming my long run shoe, adding to its versatility and value for money, much like its “sister” shoe the Novablast.
They are on the higher end price wise but what you get back in terms of response, energy return, efficiency, versatility and, really importantly, stability is worth it and makes it an absolute must have for myself.
