The Saucony Endorphin Azura is a fascinating addition to the lineup. It manages to blur the lines between a stable daily cruiser and a performance trainer. After putting it through its paces, I found it to be a surprisingly versatile neutral shoe that offers a lot more than just straight-line speed.
The Ride: Deceptively Fast
The defining characteristic of the Azura is its ability to manipulate your pace. On a planned slow recovery run, I constantly found myself running faster than I intended and had to consciously adjust my pace to slow down.
This is a clear sign that the shoe wants to push the pace. However, unlike some aggressive plated shoes that feel awkward when you run slowly, the Azura remains very comfortable and secure at slower speeds. It performs just as well during intervals and speedwork as it does at base pace, making it a truly versatile tool.
Stability & Grip: Hyrox Ready?
Although this is technically a neutral shoe, it feels very stable. This is largely due to the wide base, which provides a planted, confident feel with every footstrike.
The traction deserves a special mention. It felt very grippy on wet roads, providing a level of confidence that some foam-heavy super shoes lack. Because of this superior traction and stability, I suspect this could be an excellent option for the gym or a Hyrox competition, where grip on the sleds is just as important as running speed.
Fit Warning: Size Down
If you are looking to buy a pair, pay attention to the sizing. I found they run a little big. For me, I could have easily gone down half a size from my usual running shoe size to get that perfect performance lockdown. I’d highly recommend trying them on or ordering a half-size down if you prefer a snug fit.
The Verdict
The Saucony Endorphin Azura is a jack-of-all-trades that actually masters quite a few of them. It is stable enough for neutral runners who want reassurance, fast enough for intervals, and grippy enough for bad weather or gym work. Just watch out for the roomy sizing.
